In a nutshell (or…seashell for consistency sake), the Seashell Method of doing business is more a mindset than a method. It’s based on the old and popular tongue-twisting Nursery Rhyme depicting the woman who sells seashells on the seashore. It would seem, from this poem, that this lady is running a successful business selling the very items that can be found for free neighboring her little enterprise. It is this point that causes us to take a step back, evaluate small business as a whole and understand how proper marketing, branding and servicing of a product could in fact allow you to sell seashells on a seashore. The Seashell Method of Doing Business, whether in Marketing, Advertising, Sales, Customer Service or whatever is simply this: Defining your surroundings and then using them to increase awareness, promote your brand and ultimately create and sustain your business.

Today’s small business owner frequently faces an uphill battle gaining customers. The mindset of the business owner will not only help him or her to drive business their way but even more so to retain the business they have won. Business owners deal firsthand with consumers finding ways to spend less on the same or similar items and local business owners often times simply cannot compete on price against big corporate chains.

The fact remains that America needs small business and along with that, small business owners can’t be acting like large corporate CEOs. The Seashell Method teaches the art of business, value and finding success even when there are free seashells lying all around.
